Baseball Game Preview: Gulf Buccaneers vs. Seminole Warhawks

The Gulf Buccaneers are taking a road trip to face off against the Seminole Warhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Gulf had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Fivay on Monday. The Buccaneers never let the Falcons get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Buccaneers haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Seminole). They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over Bayshore on Tuesday. Considering the Warhawks have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Austin Turner was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Shane Stalbird was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Seminole always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Seminole pushed their record up to 18-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gulf, their record is now 8-10.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Gulf has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Seminole struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Gulf suffered a grim 20-0 defeat to Seminole in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can the Buccaneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
