Baseball Game Preview: Viera Hawks vs. Bartram Trail Bears

The Viera Hawks will venture away from home to face off against the Bartram Trail Bears at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Viera's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Bartram Trail's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Viera saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They fell just short of Beachside by a score of 6-5. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Brennan Confreda spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Luca Bongiovi was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 1-for-1. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Cameron, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Bartram Trail had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Atlantic Coast 7-5.

Bartram Trail also got a great performance from Moises Devine as he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Devine has become a key player for Bartram Trail: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Bartram Trail let Jonathan Bay and Luke Labbe run wild. Bay scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Labbe scored a run while going 2-for-4. Dominic Cantona also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Viera's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Bartram Trail, their record now sits at 6-8.

Viera took their victory against Bartram Trail in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 13-6. Does Viera have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bartram Trail turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
