Baseball Recap: Muhlenberg County Gets the Win

While Muhlenberg County's victory against McLean County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out the Cougars 8-7.

Carver Rice was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Muhlenberg County is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-4 otherwise. Rice was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayson Vincent, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kam Gettings, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.

Muhlenberg County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Muhlenberg County now has a winning record of 6-5. As for McLean County, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-6.

Muhlenberg County will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cougars: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
