Football Recap: Garden Grove Comes Up Short

Garden Grove extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-3. The contest between the Argonauts and the Santa Ana Saints didn't end well, with the Argonauts falling 48-31. Despite 78 more yards than the Saints, the Argonauts couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Despite the loss, Garden Grove still got an impressive performance from Quentin Pacelli, who rushed for 198 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Pacelli's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 167 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Santa Ana's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their seven-point performance the match before.

Evan Maldonado had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 264 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Those 264 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Garden Grove will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on University at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th. As for Santa Ana, they will host Whittier Christian at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th.
