Volleyball Preview: Davison Cardinals vs. Lapeer Lightning
Davison and Lapeer are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2014, but not for long. The Davison Cardinals will head out to take on the Lapeer Lightning at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Davison will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Last Tuesday, Davison made easy work of Saginaw and carried off a 3-0 win.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Davison took every set by at least 20 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-3, 25-5, 25-3.
Attyson Phelps had an outrageously good game as she had 16 aces. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Darby Crystal, who had ten aces and four kills.
She wasn't the only good server: Davison was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 39 aces. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved they're ace total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Lapeer's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Croswell-Lexington by a score of 2-1.
Lapeer came incredibly close to winning: the sets they lost were decided by three points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 25-22, 16-14.
Davison pushed their record up to 13-3-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Lapeer, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4-2.
Everything went Davison's way against Lapeer in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as Davison made off with a 3-0 win. Will Davison repeat their success, or does Lapeer have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
