Softball Game Preview: Pymatuning Valley Lakers vs. Mathews Mustangs

Pymatuning Valley hasn't had much luck against Mathews recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Lakers will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Pymatuning Valley took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They never let Hubbard get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory.

Not much got past Hannah Young, who gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks to keep Hubbard off the board.

At the plate, Pymatuning Valley's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Allison Clark, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Mackenzie Kribbs also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Mathews was able to grind out a solid victory over Maplewood on Friday, taking the game 4-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Mathews' win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Pymatuning Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5-1 record this season.
