Softball Recap: Calhoun City Find Success

Calhoun City proved they can win big last Monday (they won by 21) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Houston Hilltoppers 7-6. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 12-7 victory last Friday.

Olivia Vance spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Justiyah Pittman, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March.

Calhoun City has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Houston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 16 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calhoun City will head out to take on Palmer at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Houston, they will take on Vardaman at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
