Baseball Game Preview: Southampton Indians vs. Smithfield Packers

The Southampton Indians will square off against the Smithfield Packers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Smithfield took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Southampton, who comes in off a win.

If Southampton beats Smithfield with ten runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Indians beat Surry County on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-1. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won seven in a row.

The team relied heavily on Kingston Brooks, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaquar White, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Meanwhile, while it was Smithfield who put the first runs on the board on Friday, it was Tabb who put up more. The Packers fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 2-1. The game marked the Packers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Smithfield's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 4-2. As for Southampton, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Southampton suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Smithfield in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
