Softball Recap: Artesia Makes It Eight in a Row at Home

It's playoff time, and Artesia had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top against the Lovington Wildcats by a score of 7-2 on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.

Kayden Apodaca made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jenna Whitmire, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Kambry Collins was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Artesia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in nine consecutive matches.

Artesia pushed their record up to 22-7 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Lovington, they moved to 20-9 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
