Baseball Recap: Highlands Find Success

Highlands got themselves on the board against Conner on Thursday, but Conner never followed suit. They came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 4-0. This was a revenge game for the Bluebirds: when they faced off against the Cougars last Wednesday, they had to take a 7-4 loss.

Iain Carner tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Highlands let Brooks Hendrix and Nolan Schwalbach run wild. Hendrix went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, while Schwalbach went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Garrett Wiggins, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Highlands has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-10-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Conner, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-18 record this season.

Highlands will venture away from home to take on Simon Kenton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Conner does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
