Preview: Northside Eagles vs. Rutland Hurricanes

Two dominant players in Keron Milton jr. and Michael Simmons are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. After both having extra time off, the Northside Eagles and the Rutland Hurricanes will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 8:30 p.m. on December 27th. Northside knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Rutland likes a good challenge.

Last Saturday, Northside beat Perry 65-54. That looming 65-54 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Northside yet this season.

Ej Riley was the offensive standout of the contest as he dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. He set a new season high mark in steals with four. Another player making a difference was Jordan Gaines, who scored 12 points.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Rutland's good fortune finally ran out last Friday. They were the victim of a rough 66-46 loss at the hands of Spencer. While losing is never fun, Rutland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while Spencer is ranked 86th).

Northside's victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-5. As for Rutland, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Everything came up roses for Northside against Rutland when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 85-46 win. With Northside ahead 54-22 at the half, the game was all but over already.
