Basketball Recap: Leo Takes a Loss

Leo played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 58-31 defeat at the hands of the Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger Saints. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Saints apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Leo still got an impressive performance from Leah Shappell, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Shappell's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Mackenzie Collins was another key player, putting up four points.

Even though they lost, Leo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests.

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Izzie Eke, who posted 17 points and eight boards. That's the most rebounds Eke has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gillian Reidy, who put up 11 points and five steals.

Leo's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-14 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leo will head out to square off against Bellmont at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bellmont will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Leo surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, they will head out on the road to take on Fort Wayne South Side at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger is facing Fort Wayne South Side at the right time seeing as Fort Wayne South Side is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
