Baseball Recap: Winfield Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Winfield extended their winning streak to five on Monday, bumping their season record up to 18-6 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Hoover Huskies. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Generals have posted since April 15th.

Winfield's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jared Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Hoover, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 13-11. Those home defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Hoover's side, Gabe Blackwell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up six Ks. Blackwell has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winfield will square off against Buffalo at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Generals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bison have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season. As for Hoover, they will take on Logan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
