Basketball Recap: Vanguard College Prep Triumphs

Stockton Christian came into Thursday's contest looking for another win against Vanguard College Prep, but Xavier Lopez wouldn't allow it. The Vanguard College Prep Lions skirted past the Stockton Christian Eagles 64-62 thanks in part to Lopez, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 21 points. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game.

Stockton Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Chamblee, who posted 18 points. Chamblee's evening made it 12 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenzy Escalante, who put up 17 points.

Vanguard College Prep's win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Stockton Christian, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-7.

Vanguard College Prep will challenge Delta Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Vanguard College Prep's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Stockton Christian, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 67-54 victory against Turlock Christian on the 10th.
