Preview: Iola Mustangs vs. St. Paul Indians

The Iola Mustangs will be playing at home against the St. Paul Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Iola suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They took a serious blow against Wellsville, falling 73-46. While losing is never fun, Iola can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Wellsville is ranked 35th).

Iola's defeat came about despite a quality game from Cortland Carson, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Grady Dougherty, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to St. Paul, who are still winless after their tenth matchup. Their rough 60-34 defeat to Northeast on Friday might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. Paul in their matchups with Northeast: they've now lost five in a row.

Iola's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for St. Paul, their loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-10.

Everything came up roses for Iola against St. Paul when the teams last played back in January of 2021 as the squad secured a 71-23 victory. With Iola ahead 41-12 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
