Basketball Recap: KIPP Esperanza Takes a Loss

KIPP Esperanza lost against Mid-Peninsula back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The KIPP Esperanza Eagles lost to the Mid-Peninsula Dragons at home by a 59-44 margin. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, KIPP Esperanza still got an impressive performance from Jaylen Bush, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Bush a new career-high in steals (three). Jereny Castro was another key player, putting up ten points.

Mid-Peninsula found their leader in sophomore Oliver Carpenter, who dropped a double-double with 28 points and 11 steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Carpenter has scored at least a third of Mid-Peninsula's points. Another player making a difference was Nayan Chawla, who posted seven points along with six rebounds and three blocks.

KIPP Esperanza's defeat dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Mid-Peninsula, their win ended a 14-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-10.

KIPP Esperanza didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 49-35 loss against Mountain View Academy on the 13th. As for Mid-Peninsula, they have also already played their next game, a 62-22 victory against Stratford Prep on the 13th.
