Softball Recap: Lake City Gets the Win

After losing to Lewiston the last time they met, Lake City decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Lake City came out on top against Lewiston by a score of 8-3 on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Timberwolves have beaten the Bengals on their field since April 13, 2024.

Madalynn Blood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Layla Gugino was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Brooklyn Caan was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Lake City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lewiston only posted a batting average of .185.

Lake City now has a winning record of 5-4-1. As for Lewiston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Lake City will head out to square off against Moscow at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lake City's pitchers better be ready for this one: Moscow has averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Lewiston, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Post Falls at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
