Football Recap: Benjamin Campusano's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Corona over Murrieta Mesa

Corona was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 31-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Murrieta Mesa Rams. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 555th, while the Rams are ranked 106th).

Corona's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Benjamin Campusano, who picked up 84 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 70 yards.

Corona's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Murrieta Mesa, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-3.

Looking ahead, Corona will square off against Santiago at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will be up against the Sharks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.25 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Murrieta Mesa, they will face off against King at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rams will need to watch out since the Wolves have now posted at least 31 points in their last three contests.
