Softball Recap: Boyd Extends Winning Streak to Five

Boyd had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Pilot Point on Friday. The Boyd Yellowjackets were the clear victor by a 10-2 margin over the Pilot Point Bearcats. Considering the Yellowjackets have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Abby Atkinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 18 Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Boyd let Kayli DoByns and Addy Beltram run wild. DoByns scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Beltram scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Beltram a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Stephanie Salas, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Boyd, bringing their record for this year to 12-3-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Pilot Point, they dropped their record down to 3-6 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Boyd will face off against City View at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday. As for Pilot Point, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Pilot Point Bearcats duke it out with Callisburg Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. They are facing Callisburg at the right time seeing as Callisburg is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
