Basketball Game Preview: Todd County Falcons vs. Mahpiya Luta Crusaders

Todd County is 0-10 against Mahpiya Luta since December of 2017 but things could change on Saturday. The Todd County Falcons will challenge the Mahpiya Luta Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. Todd County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Mahpiya Luta likes a good challenge.

While Todd County didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 59-58 win over Cheyenne-Eagle Butte.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Todd County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Oniya Whirlwind Soldier, who went 11 of 24 on his way to 24 points in addition to five boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Ellert, who went 8 for 13 on his way to 17 points and seven rebounds.

Todd County was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, 2025 welcomed Mahpiya Luta with a 60-40 loss courtesy of Winner on Saturday. The Crusaders haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Todd County's record is now 5-2. As for Mahpiya Luta, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Todd County suffered a grim 66-40 defeat to Mahpiya Luta when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Todd County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
