Mason Sommer was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. West Bend East is 2-1 when Sommer allows two or fewer earned runs, but 1-10 otherwise. Sommer was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Davis Rowley, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of West Bend East's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 1-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tyler Walsh, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Cedarburg ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top against Homestead by a score of 6-3. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.
West Bend East's record is now 3-11. As for Cedarburg, their record now sits at 5-8.
Cedarburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. West Bend East has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Cedarburg, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will West Bend East keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?
West Bend East might still be hurting after the 10-1 defeat they got from Cedarburg when the teams last played back in April. Can the Suns avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
