Baseball Game Preview: Thomas Jefferson Spartans vs. Discovery Canyon Thunder

The Thomas Jefferson Spartans will challenge the Discovery Canyon Thunder at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Thomas Jefferson has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Shepard Schneider was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesus Flores-Sanchez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Discovery Canyon put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Rampart with a sharp 22-7 victory. Fans of the Thunder have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Nate Singleton was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Cole Teltschik was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.

Discovery Canyon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rampart only managed five hits.

Discovery Canyon pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Thomas Jefferson, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Thomas Jefferson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Discovery Canyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
