Baseball Recap: Klamath Union's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Klamath Union's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Mazama Vikings. Considering the Pelicans' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Pj Safford made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Klamath Union is 4-1 when Safford allows two or fewer earned runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Safford was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maruk Morris, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Klamath Union: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-10 otherwise.

With the win, Klamath Union broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-10. As for Mazama, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-14.

Klamath Union will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vikings: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
