Basketball Recap: St. Joseph Academy Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

St. Joseph Academy won the last time they faced Trinity and things went their way on Saturday too. The St. Joseph Academy Jaguars took down the Trinity Trojans 64-45. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Trojans are ranked 243rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Joseph Academy had a senior duo take command as Bree White went 5 of 8 on her way to 13 points and three steals and Morgan Wearsch went 5 of 8 on her way to 13 points and seven assists. Those seven assists set a new season-high mark for Wearsch. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Stehlik, who posted eight points and three steals.

St. Joseph Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups.

Trinity's loss came despite strong showings from Iniya Charlton and Kanora Bryant. Charlton put up 12 points and three steals, while Bryant had eight points. Charlton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 31 games she's played dating back to last season.

St. Joseph Academy has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.1 points per game. As for Trinity, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.

St. Joseph Academy will take on Strongsville at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Strongsville will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something St. Joseph Academy surely won't give up without a fight. As for Trinity, they will square off against Beachwood at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Trinity is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season.
