Basketball Recap: Poplarville Takes a Loss

Poplarville played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 56-32 to the Ben's Ford Christian Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 207th in Mississippi, while the Eagles are ranked 59th in Louisiana).

Ben's Ford Christian was led to victory by Zoe Nastasia and Avery Dantin. Nastasia went 11 of 20 on her way to 27 points in addition to seven boards and six steals, while Dantin went 6 for 14 on her way to 16 points along with seven steals and six boards. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Nastasia has scored at least a third of Ben's Ford Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Willis, who posted five points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Poplarville's loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Ben's Ford Christian, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

Poplarville will be taking part in a tournament against Stone at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Poplarville is facing Stone at the right time seeing as Stone is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Ben's Ford Christian, they will venture away from home to square off against Columbia Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ben's Ford Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.5 points per game this season.
