Basketball Recap: Copper Hills Falls Short Against Ranked Corner Canyon

On Friday, Copper Hills faced Corner Canyon in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Copper Hills Grizzlies came up short against the Corner Canyon Chargers, falling 76-50. The Grizzlies were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-19.

Copper Hills lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jacob Curtis, who posted nine points and six rebounds. Eli Mulford also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Tyler Mortensen went supernova for Corner Canyon, going 8 for 12 on his way to 23 points and six boards. Those 23 points gave Mortensen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bryton Valdes, who went 7 of 11 en route to 15 points.

Copper Hills has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season. As for Corner Canyon, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Copper Hills will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Riverton at 7:00 p.m. Copper Hills is facing Riverton at the right time seeing as Riverton is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Corner Canyon, they will head out to challenge Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Corner Canyon's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
