Soccer Recap: Ames Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

Ames had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.7 goals) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Lincoln Railsplitters a 7-0 shutout. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Ames' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa soccer rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Lincoln are ranked 117th).

Ames pushed their record up to 11-2-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those seven contests. As for Lincoln, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8-1 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ames will challenge Hoover at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lincoln, they will look to defend their home pitch on Thursday against Indianola at 7:00 p.m.
