Basketball Preview: Covenant Christian Cougars vs. Grace Prep Lions

The Covenant Christian Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Grace Prep Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Covenant Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Tuesday.

Covenant Christian had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three. They walked away with a 48-38 win over Trinity Christian. Given Covenant Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Eagles are ranked 805th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Covenant Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Boughton, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Hill, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals.

In what's become a running theme this season, Grace Prep gave their fans yet another huge win on Saturday. Everything went their way against Midland Classical Academy as Grace Prep made off with a 46-25 win.

Covenant Christian is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. As for Grace Prep, their win bumped their record up to 20-9.

Covenant Christian beat the Lions 63-51 in their previous meeting back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Covenant Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
