Softball Recap: Southwest EC Takes Down Tri-City Christian in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Southwest EC walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over Tri-City Christian on Wednesday. Considering Southwest EC has won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Alexis Trujillo made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kaydence Wiewel was incredible, firing off two home runs, four RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sophia Sauceda, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

Southwest EC hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.

Southwest EC has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Tri-City Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 17-6-1.

Looking ahead, Southwest EC will venture away from home to square off against Canyon Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.3, the Rattlers 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Tri-City Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
