Softball Recap: Lake Central Takes Down Ranked Crown Point

Lake Central faced Crown Point in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Indians came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 5-1. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Maddie Such spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kate Renschen, who went 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Taylor Schafer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Lake Central's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Crown Point, the loss snapped their winning streak at ten games and leaves them with a 19-3 record.

Looking ahead, Lake Central will square off against Merrillville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.91 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Crown Point, they will challenge Michigan City at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
