Basketball Recap: Leonardtown Comes Up Short

Leonardtown has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 25.71 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They took a 55-41 bruising from the Urbana Hawks. The Raiders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Leonardtown still got an impressive performance from Allie Robrecht, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 12 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave Robrecht a new career-high in points. Eva Weller was another key player, putting up five points along with six rebounds and four blocks.

Urbana was led to victory by Zizi Etolue and Kiersten Smith. Etolue dropped a double-double with 14 points and 14 boards, while Smith posted 13 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Etolue has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more boards the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tobi Adebambo, who put up eight points and five rebounds.

Leonardtown's defeat dropped their record down to 19-2. As for Urbana, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Leonardtown will be taking part in a tournament against North Point at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in North Point's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches. As for Urbana, they are taking a road trip to face off against Manchester Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Urbana is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season.
