Baseball Recap: Northwest Takes a Loss

Northwest fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Orrville on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Riders by a score of 9-8. The Indians were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Red Riders earlier this season, when they won 7-1.

Josh Smith was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Smith was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Andrew Jones was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Branded Miller was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.

Northwest now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Orrville, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.

Looking ahead, Northwest will face off against Lake at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Indians 3.4, the Blue Streaks 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Orrville, they will challenge Waterloo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
