Basketball Preview: Santana Sultans vs. Mount Miguel Matadors

The Santana Sultans will head out on the road to take on the Mount Miguel Matadors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Santana is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.

Santana pushed their score all the way to 66 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to El Cajon Valley 71-66.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Dain Diaz, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeffrey Van Oostende, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, Mount Miguel unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 75-65 to El Capitan. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Santana has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season. As for Mount Miguel, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-8.

Santana suffered a grim 63-41 defeat to the Matadors in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mount Miguel's Jasen Hughes, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Now that Santana knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
