Baseball Game Preview: Halifax County Comets vs. Bassett Bengals

Halifax County has gone 9-1 against Bassett recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Comets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bengals at 6:00 p.m. Halifax County is coming into the game hot, having won their last ten games.

Halifax County is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand George Washington a 34-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Comets have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

CJ Farley tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Logan Clark was a standout: he fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Seamster, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs.

Halifax County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .745. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Bassett's offense. They fell 4-0 to Tunstall on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Bengals in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost seven in a row.

Halifax County's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Bassett, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.

Halifax County was able to grind out a solid victory over Bassett in their previous matchup back in April, winning 7-3. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Bengals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
