Softball Recap: St. Ignatius College Preparatory Triumphs

St. Ignatius College Preparatory proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 11) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Marin Catholic 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win St. Ignatius College Preparatory has posted since March 14, 2024.

Cassidy Chew spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 13 Ks. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gianna Galarza, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Delilah Berry was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Galarza wasn't the only one working in the hit department: St. Ignatius College Preparatory kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.

St. Ignatius College Preparatory's record is now 3-0. As for Marin Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, St. Ignatius College Preparatory is taking a road trip to square off against Aragon at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Marin Catholic, they will face off against Montgomery at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
