Baseball Game Preview: Oxnard Yellowjackets vs. Foothill Tech Dragons

The Oxnard Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to challenge the Foothill Tech Dragons at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Oxnard will be strutting in after a victory while Foothill Tech will be coming in after a defeat.

Oxnard proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by eight) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Oak Park 9-8.

Steven Lira was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Gavin Ramos was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles.

Lira wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Oxnard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Foothill Tech was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Milken.

Oxnard's record is now 6-9. As for Foothill Tech, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Foothill Tech's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Oxnard has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Foothill Tech, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will Oxnard keep running through batters, or will Foothill Tech buck the trend?
