Softball Recap: Durham Academy Gets the Win

Durham Academy took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Ravenscroft, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cavaliers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 20-19 win over the Ravens on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Cavaliers have won by just one run.

Claire Lynch was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Matelon Barber, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Durham Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in five consecutive matches.

Durham Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Ravenscroft, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Durham Academy has already played their next game, a 21-14 loss against Charlotte Country Day School on the 4th. As for Ravenscroft, they will square off against Neuse Christian Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Ravens are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
