Softball Game Preview: Greenway Demons vs. Thunderbird Titans

For the second straight game, Greenway will face off against Thunderbird. The Demons will welcome the Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Greenway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.

Greenway managed to slip by Thunderbird the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Demons lost 12-2 to the Titans on Tuesday. The Demons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Thunderbird's part, Alicia Flores was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Flores has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Thunderbird always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenway only posted an OBP of .158.

Thunderbird has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Greenway, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 10-6.

Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Greenway has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .548. However, it's not like Thunderbird struggles in that department as they've averaged .498. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
