Basketball Game Preview: Kingwood Mustangs vs. King Panthers

Kingwood has won three straight games at home, while King has won three straight on the road dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Saturday. The Kingwood Mustangs will welcome the King Panthers at 1:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Kingwood is headed into the game having just posted their closest victory since January 24, 2024 on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Cypress Ranch 62-60.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when King duked it out withHumble two weeks ago. King snuck past Humble with a 58-52 victory. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Wildcats are ranked 213th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kingwood's win bumped their record up to 13-8. As for King, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.

Kingwood came out on top in a nail-biter against King in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, sneaking past 49-47. Will Kingwood repeat their success, or does King have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
