The Brookland-Cayce Bearcats will take on the Chapin Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Brookland-Cayce has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Chapin will arrive with three straight wins.
Brookland-Cayce fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Gilbert on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 2-1. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 20, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Preston Coggins was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brookland-Cayce saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bennett Plane, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Thomas Donadio also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chapin). Everything went their way against Irmo on Thursday as they made off with a 14-4 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
Reese Jolly looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Ty Harper and Caden Reeves did most of the damage at the plate: Harper went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Reeves got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI Reeves has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Bobby Gummere, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Chapin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Chapin's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Brookland-Cayce, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.
