Basketball Recap: The Covenant's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

The Covenant won against North Cross last Thursday with 62 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Covenant Eagles really took it to the Chelsea Academy Knights for the full four quarters, racking up a 62-28 victory. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 21 points or more this season.

The Covenant got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Makayla Hargrove out in front who posted 16 points. Hargrove has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kerrigan Poindexter, who earned 14 points and five steals.

Chelsea Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Barvick, who scored nine points and seven rebounds. Cici Wingate was another key player, putting up six points and five boards.

The victory was the eighth in a row for The Covenant, bringing their record for this year to 10-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Chelsea Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

The Covenant didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 47-37 win against Miller School of Albemarle on the 22nd. Chelsea Academy has also already played their next game, a 71-61 victory against Fairfax HomeSchool on the 27th.
