Softball Recap: Greater Nanticoke Area Trojans vs. Wyoming Area Warriors

Greater Nanticoke Area had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it nine. They lost 15-3 to the Wyoming Area Warriors. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 6-2 to the Warriors when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Greater Nanticoke Area saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haley Verazin, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

As for Wyoming Area, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

On Wyoming Area's side, Alexa Gasek made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Gasek has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Addison Gaylord was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and two RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Sydney Ratchford also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greater Nanticoke Area will welcome Berwick at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Wyoming Area, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against MMI Preparatory School at 4:15 p.m.
