Football Recap: Monrovia Starts off Right with Win over Brentwood School

Monrovia took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They managed a 42-38 victory over the Brentwood School Eagles.

Monrovia's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jesse Saucedo, who threw for 485 yards and five TDs while completing 76.5% of his passes. Saucedo is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Monrovia's leading receiver Troy Grise was Saucedo's top target yet again, picking up 167 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Monrovia's run defense was locked in: Brentwood School could only muster 2.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Lucas Martinez for the heroic effort on defense: he. Monrovia didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged eight.

Monrovia's defensive line didn't let Ben Mikail., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. KALEB ELLISON was especially locked on to Brentwood School's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in the Eagles' side was Martinez, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made ten total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Despite the loss, Brentwood School had strong showings from Mikail, who threw for 286 yards and four TDs, and Roman Lacgalvis, who picked up 127 receiving yards and one score. Brendan Bowman was in the mix as well, providing the Eagles with one touchdown.

Monrovia and Brentwood School should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Wildcats (ranked 246th) will meet Eagle Rock (ranked 588th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Brentwood School will take on Hueneme at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (276 vs. 582).
