Softball Recap: Meridian Comes Up Short

Meridian extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-14 in the process. They lost 12-4 to the Skyline Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in April.

Elena Clark-Wilson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered nine earned (and three unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up 19 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Claire Hartenstein was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those doubles were her first of the season.

As for Skyline, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Skyline's side, Mackenzie McIntyre tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits.

At the plate, Skyline got a massive performance out of Kyleigh Williams, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most hits Williams has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Alice Benson, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Meridian will face off against rival Warren County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Skyline is set to take on their familiar foe Handley at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
