Softball Recap: Willowbrook Takes a Loss

If Willowbrook was feeling good fresh off their 16-0 takedown of Proviso East on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Warriors fell just short of the Downers Grove South Mustangs by a score of 8-6 on Monday. The Warriors have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Liz Pettinger and Natalie Quigley stepped up to the plate in a big way. Pettinger went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Quigley went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Allison Coppersmith was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Willowbrook's defeat dropped their record down to 14-13. As for Downers Grove South, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-5.

Coming up, Willowbrook will square off against Berwyn/Cicero Morton at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Downers Grove South, they will face off against Plainfield East at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bengals' pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
