Softball Recap: Long Wins Going Away Against Slocomb

Long had won three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they bumped their record up to 29-8 to make it four. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Slocomb Red Tops. The Rebels have beaten the Red Tops the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Red Tops has come to flipping the script.

Anna Claire Free spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kaylie Foster was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last five games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylie Joseph, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Long kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.

As for Slocomb, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-17-1 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

On Slocomb's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Molly Mcgowan, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Coming up, Long will face off against Houston Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Slocomb does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
