Baseball Recap: North Lenoir's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

After flying high against Kinston on Wednesday, North Lenoir came back down to earth. The Hawks fell just short of the East Duplin Panthers by a score of 5-4 on Thursday. Hawks fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Panthers since on Thursday.

Garrett Byrd was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out 14 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Byrd was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Jayden Miller was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

North Lenoir's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-5. As for East Duplin, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Lenoir will take on Rosewood in a tournament on Saturday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for East Duplin, they will be taking part in a tournament against Southern Wayne at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
