Softball Game Preview: Whitehall-Yearling Rams vs. Franklin Heights Falcons

Whitehall-Yearling is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Monday. They will look to defend their home field against the Franklin Heights Falcons at 5:15 p.m. Franklin Heights took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Whitehall-Yearling, who comes in off a win.

On Saturday, Whitehall-Yearling made easy work of Liberty Christian Academy and carried off an 18-3 victory. The contest marked the Rams' most dominant win of the season so far.

Tamia Latham was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Latham was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubree Waites, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Elena Pablo, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Franklin Heights was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 24-6 to Northridge.

The victory made it two in a row for Whitehall-Yearling and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Franklin Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Whitehall-Yearling was able to grind out a solid victory over Franklin Heights when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 8-4. Will Whitehall-Yearling repeat their success, or does Franklin Heights has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
