Basketball Recap: Maranatha Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Maranatha Christian Academy lost against Horton back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Maranatha Christian Academy Eagles took a 55-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Horton Chargers. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Chargers are ranked 116th).

Despite the loss, Maranatha Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Pennbrook Shaver went 5 for 6 en route to 15 points. Another player making a difference was Luke Shrader, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 boards.

Maranatha Christian Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Horton, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Maranatha Christian Academy will be taking part in a tournament against Pleasant Ridge at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Pleasant Ridge has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 182 points over their last three matches. Horton has already played their next game (against McLouth), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
