Basketball Recap: Fort Wayne Wayne Takes a Loss

Fort Wayne Wayne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 63-52 to the Kokomo Wildkats.

Despite the defeat, Fort Wayne Wayne saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Davianna Irons dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds. Those 14 boards gave Irons a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tani Hairston, who posted ten points.

Even though they lost, Fort Wayne Wayne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kokomo only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.

Kokomo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Makaela Drake led the charge by going 8 of 14 on her way to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amara Stroman, who put up 11 points and six rebounds.

Fort Wayne Wayne's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Kokomo, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

Fort Wayne Wayne wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 52-49 win against Shelbyville on the 27th. As for Kokomo, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-45 defeat against Northeastern on the 27th.
